2006-06-06, 8:44 a.m.: If it involves Ron Moore, if it involves Battlestar Galactica, hell, if it involves anything with the word "trek" in the name ... I'm on board. Ron Moore rocks! I just got a new computer, after the untimely death of the old, and now I have to adjust back to an American keyboard. I just paid $120 for the special German keyboard in December. And the sucker is not transferable to this new computer (a sleak black MacBook). It was good while it lasted, though. Googling in German and all that. The halcyon days of German googling. In worse news, the MacBook has a defective CD/DVD and has to be sent back to the factory (it sort of clicks and whirrs whenever you insert a disk, and doesn't stop). I just got it on Friday. When it's all fixed up and perfect, I swear not to drop it ever. I swear not to drop it ever. I swear not to drop it ever. Nothing happening on the poetry front though I guess I do have a few pieces out there in the world. I started translating again last week, making money again, am already on project no. 3, seems like old times. Except it's hard to work in the midst of inadequate babysitting. And the splitting headaches - four in five days. I sort of like using that little (littlish) section of my brain, but focusing on it does tend to push out poetry. I still wish I were a librarian. Want to work in the rare book archives. According to the books and movies, that's where all the intrigue takes place. In kid news, we have been watching Dan Zanes videos and listening to the CDs and it makes me want to practice the mandolin so bad and I go around singing all day, all day long: Pay me, you owe me / Pay me my money down / Pay me or go to jail / Pay me my money down. 1 comments
2006-06-03, 7:39 p.m.: I got a royalty check in the mail. To cover "the first quarter of 2006" for The Language of Exile. I was shocked because I had forgotten that part of it, and ... poetry doesn't pay, right? If anything, it's a mark against you out here in the reeeeaaaaal world. $41.20. Wow. And whoa. If only I could do the math to figure out how many books that means I sold. 1 comments
