I just put a Kooser book down, like 10 minutes ago. I read one, a year or so ago, called (I think) Shadows and Delights. I liked that one...mostly, as you say, for its simplicity and also for what seemed to me to be a writer sort-of close to Kinnell, but not so infused with emotional commentary. I do love Kinnell, though. In any case, I liked him, Kooser, but after reading 3 or 4 more of his books, I can't find a single thing to like. Postcards in Winter is especially dreadful: about 75 pages, a date in the winter written on each, and then some very horrible, worse than Haines, nature poetry that was so uninspired that I fell asleep reading it. Twice. I like reading your writing commentary. I'm so, so out of the literary world. I do try to keep up with the poetry, though, because it offers some window to modern literature. Hope you're well! E.
