2003-09-20, 10:30 a.m.: I knew it would come to this. They want to build a stairway to heaven, a Tower of Babel. One would hope they fare better this time than last. I can't help but think of the (Nebula Award-winning) Ted Chiang story/novella, "Tower of Babylon" (which he wrote as a freshman in college), whose moral seems to be 'Be careful what you wish for' (and which for some reason makes the phrase 'More will be revealed' - implying 'Don't ask questions' - go on auto-repeat in my head). Did I already mention that Ted Chiang's Stories of Your Life and Others was the best book I read last year? 0 comments

2003-08-17, noon: Wishful Thinking Extravaganza of the Week (from an amazon.com editorial review of the Angel season 1 DVD): "A darker, more film noir version of 'Buffy,' 'Angel' lacked the peppy humor that permeated Sunnydale but more than made up for it in its soul-wrenching gravitas, and it elevated Boreanaz to leading-man status, a role he filled out ably and then some."
