2004-06-24, 9:37 a.m.: Turns out that (according to an old family cookbook, Rice & Spice: Rice Recipes from East to West): "... Today Louisiana is the largest rice-growing state in our country, although Arkansas, Texas and California are strong competitors. These states are exporting rice today." Correlation with my HOT SPOTS, below? With Texas excluded only because ... well, I'm always making fun of Texas, can't help myself, and now they don't want me I reckon. 0 comments
2004-06-24, 7:48 a.m.: Introducing ... my top spots: 1. Hot Springs/Hot Springs Village, Arkansas (America's natural spa!) 2. Covington, Louisiana (A Walk Through History TM) 3. Little Rock, Arkansas (Where America Comes Together) 4. Valencia, California (A Blueprint for Paradise) 5. Honolulu (America's Tropical Paradise) 6. New Orleans, Louisiana (what? No slogan? How will we tell this town apart from Bumfum, Michigan if it doesn't even have its own catchy slogan? Fat Tuesday, you say? Shrimp creole? The French Quarter? Pshaw!) 7. Eureka Springs, Arkansas (Playground of the Ozarks) 8. Baton Rouge, Louisiana (The Cajun Capital) 9. Mountain Home/Bull Shoals, Arkansas (Gateway to the Ozarks) 10. Kailua-Kona, Hawaii (The Big Island's Gold Coast) A couple of things. One: What's with all the Arkansas? Can it be that Arkansas has been my dream destination all this time and I never knew (having never even been)? Two: Does every town in America now have a cheesy slogan? I mean, I grew up in A Place Called Reston but one would expect America's First Planned Community TM (guess that one wasn't sexy enough) to have its own little branding and line of fashion wear. Three: I guess I was afraid to admit that I always wanted to live in a place called Bull Shoals. Four: The remaining "top spots" include a lot more Louisiana, Arkansas and Hawaii, with some California thrown in for good measure - not to mention Las Vegas. Go figure on that one. I guess I didn't say snow was important to me. But, you know, it is. 0 comments
2004-05-28, 12:29 p.m.: I have found it. The blog of my dreams, the blog that contains within itself everything I most relish on the Internet. I present to you: Lost in Transit dot Org.
Also: Wow. And: Yeah, baby. 0 comments
2004-05-15, 7:42 p.m.: I fear to imagine what it says about me that I should love Crispin Glover just so much.
I am watching "Willard" as we speak. I still regret to this day that I missed that fateful Letterman appearance in the late Eighties. I was holed up in Brotdorf (yes, Bread Town) at the time, washing my clothes by hand in icy cold water in the WC sink (a four-hour affair), and happened to miss quite a lot. Eric with a C sent me an article about the event, however. Thanks to Waxy.org, you can read about it here, complete with screencaps. 0 comments
2004-05-13, 7:35 p.m.: With seven days left in the auction - a walk-on part on "Star Trek: Enterprise" and an on-set tour by Robert Duncan McNeill (Tom Paris! In the flesh!), it really isn't that much money.
We'll check back in on this one later. 0 comments
